Our story

A little story for you about how it all began..

Mother Goose Nurseries was originally a family project and was going to be an international group based in Miami, San Francisco and London. Unfortunately the international aspect of the project did not materialise; Curtis and Krish Brown continued with the UK plan and, opened the first Mother Goose Nursery based in South East London.

Curtis is the youngest of ten children and grew up in Kingston, Jamaica. His parents wanted him to have a better life and sent him to London, when he was 12 years old, to live with the family that he had never met. Later, he became a lifeguard at Dulwich Baths and a professional scuba diver.

Krish was born in South Africa and is the youngest of five children. She moved to London in the 1970s as a child with her family. Krish attended Peckham Girls School and eventually became a pharmacy dispenser at Boots.

Krish and Curtis met at Dulwich baths in the late 1970s whilst he was working there as a lifeguard; soon after that, Krish and Curtis got married.

Krish was always very interested in child development and wanted to open a children’s nursery here in England. She noticed the greater need for quality nurseries in South East London.

On the 1st August 1989, Curtis and Krish opened the doors to Mother Goose Nursery in East Dulwich with their first two nursery children and two members of staff. Their eldest daughter was one of the two children who were lucky enough to be the first Mother Goose nursery children. Krish soon noticed the demand for baby places and then moved on to open the first ever baby nursery in South East London.

Their second daughter also attended Mother Goose in the mid 1990s. Mother Goose continued to expand to five nurseries to meet the growing need for high-quality childcare settings.

Krish often comes up with the ideas for the nurseries and Curtis and his trusted team transform her ideas into reality. This is still how they operate today!

With the help of a great team of tried and tested, trained and committed staff, Krish and Curtis and their family have been able to provide a loving, caring and homely environment for children and their families for over 30 years. Mother Goose has inspired many who attended the nursery. Some have even gone on to gaining the relevant childcare qualifications and becoming nursery workers and nursery managers themselves at Mother Goose!

As a family we are proud to say that we have made a difference to so many children and their families’ lives and we intend to carry on doing so for many more years to come.
